My guess: you don't notice the warnings of deferred maintenance. If
one of your car's wheel bearings is going, you hear it. On the
trailer, not so much. Trailers (particularly boat trailers) are often
abused. It's very common to find trailers that are seriously
overloaded. It's normal trailer practice to use tire/wheel
combinations that are exactly the weight rating of the axle. Over
load the trailer ten percent, and the tires get very hot, and one will
blowout.
