I've dealt with hydraulics of all sorts for 40 years and I've seen some great
cylinders, aircraft, etc., that would hold a rated load indefinitely . .
months, years!! Good advise, however, is to relieve the cylinder and valve
from extended "holding" duties by using an engine stand or some device which
will pin or support the load and take the load off the seals in the cylinder and
valve. There's a safety consideration as well, I particularly do not want to
trust a "Chinese" seal if I have my foot under a heavy engine block.
