I read all of the replies and I think you many be missing one type of mower.  
A large 36" to 48" walk behind Bobcat will make quick work of you lawn. They 
are a real work horse and quick.  You almost never have to back up.  I 
recommend you check out a bobcat.  If you have never seen one here is a link

As for snow get a blower or a real front end loader.  JM2C.
