Subject: broken bolt removal
I just broke off the bolt that holds the right side water outlet to the
cylinder part of the block on my 34 austin seven. So, I now have a sunken in
stump of a bolt stuck in the not very thick web that it bolts into. My
first inclination is to drill and tap. But, the current issue of the
American Austin/bantam club news has a different method.
Supposedly you can heat the bolt stub with a fine cutting torch
flame then blow it out with oxygen. To me , this sounds like a certain way
to crack the block. Has anyone ever tried this ?? Did it work?????
Would a plasma torch work better ????
