I have a ceiling fan that won't start up any more. At least
not most of the time.

It's the type typically sold under the Hunter name, although
I bought this one at Sears. When I pull the switch, the
motor hums but won't turn the blades. If I push the
direction switch to the up position, it will sometimes start
and run in that direction.

I believe direction and speed changes are controlled through
the switching of various windings, with a capacitor to start
it. But I have no idea how it's wired or what the
components are in there. Does anyone know how these things
are configured electrically?

We like the style of this particular fan, and haven't seen
others like it, so although the replacement cost isn't
prohibitive, we would like to keep this one. Ideas?

Thanks.

Jim
