The reason I know of for 2 filaments on 1 circuit is for failsafe
lighting...one filament burns out, the lamp is dimmer, hopefully alerting
the owner to replace it, (since the other filament won't be far off), yet
owner has time to do the job and still has some functionality.

hi: i just bought a civic parts car. inside this car i found two boxes of
very weird light bulbs. one has a single positive contact but two
filaments. the other has two filaments but only one positive contact. both
are smallish bulbs with a standard taillight size base. (and neither has
anything to do with the honda).

what are these weird artifacts for???
