I've been using a K&N in my 1992 Mitsubishi for about 4 years. I clean and
re-oil using K&N stuff annually, just before inspection. The Mitsu has
172,000 miles on it, 100 lbs compression in all four cylinders. I do about
25,000 miles a year. I haven't seen anything that could indicate damage from
dirt thru the filter.
I think annual cleaning and re-oiling is the key. I'm going to see if I can
beat their million mile warranty.
