Kent: I have always heard these items referred to as "rivet nuts" or "rivnuts". They are readily available in standard sizes and come in aluminum, brass and steel. I believe that McMaster Carr sells them among others. Do a search on the web for rivet nuts. Your description sounds like you are using the tool correctly.
