i'll answer...
Eudora can be gotten in a free version w/advertising
Pegasus is very nice, and free. i used to use it, but the (now
somewhat older) version i used was slow when you had overly large
inboxes, so i switched.
Mahogany is a new open source effort under development; it's still
alpha, and thus only for the adventurous, but i'm using it for three
of my email accounts, and it'll be quite nice when it's done. it's
still a touch buggy though, in annoying but not catastrophic ways. see
mahogany.sourceforge.net if you want to take a risk...
there is an email reader in the Opera web browser, which is free
(w/advertising), but i've not tried to use it (i've been using Opera
as a web browser a bit lately, and it's not a bad piece of work, much
nicer than Mozilla 6 which is an awful pig.)
so there's a couple of free ones.
i'm reading this mailbox with the mail reder in agent, which is a nice
newsreader and not quite as nice a mail reader, plus you have to pay
for the full version to get the mail reader.
but outlook, now, outlook/outlook express is evil.
cheers,
richard
