The professional solution are some sort of pier.  Basically, they drill a
hole in the slab, and force a steel pipe down into the ground, attaching it
to a plate on the slab.  There's a similiar technique with concrete forced
in under pressure.  That's expensive, though -- $500 or so per pier.  The
number needed depends on the size of the structure, and the soil conditions.


It might be possible to support the outer edge of the slab with a series of
steel posts, which is lots of labour, but would't require much skill or
special equipment.  If you're somewhere where it's very dry, waterng the
foundation might help.
