Well, that's different for different people- all my stuff is
metric and I work on bikes more than cars, so it's 8x1, 10x1, 10x1.25, 
12x1.25 which get the most use.

If you get the cheap HF set as someone else suggested, about
a third of the taps and dies will have burrs in them.  They're ok
for threading stuff that's totally non-critical,  but usually
when I'm getting out the taps or dies I'm working on something
that needs some reasonable threads.  I've wound up buying some
higher quality taps or dies for some of the sizes.

I like having a set since it reduces the trips down the hill and
into town.   I'll probably buy a better set one of these days.
