When I used to pull engines without an engine lift, I'd
throw a 6x6 timber (about 8-12' long) across the joists.
Drill through and install a stout (forged is best) eye-bolt
with fender washers to distribute the immediate load.
The beam would then distribute the full load over many
joists. Never had a problem. Just make sure that where
you drill for the eyebolt is good wood, no large knots, etc.
