$200 is more than even Starrett wants for a new 3" caliper (I think the
price is about $175). If you're willing to have an import
rather than American made, you should be able to find one for under
$100, new.

If you're checking cranks for your own knowledge, rather than because
you're machining, then a mike that reads to .001 will probably do.
Reading to .0001 ("tenths") is a nice plus, but it takes practice to
get repeatable results.

Starrett makes a special mike just for this application - 1.5-3.5", tenths
reading. You should be able to get this for under $200.
