I've had a problem with the shift boot that comes with a chrome ring as well -
My problem has been that the rubber cracks and breaks apart. I saw one in the
JC Whitney catalog that has a rectangular chrome base but the boot is soft
leather with a tie around the top. I just haven't gotten around to ordering it
yet.
