My understanding of the differences is the
shifting characteristics and different discs/plates/etc-materials used in
Ford vs Chevy transmissions.
The tale I heard (and may have come from
someones wife) was Mercron would cause GM ttranny to wear faster, and Dextron
would cause Ford tranny to shift too soft and eventually slip.
