I've been lurking on the oletrucks list for quite some time, just
working away on my '59 GMC fleetside 1/2 ton pickup (6 cylinder 270).
It's always basically been willing to run, but never stunningly. Of
course, there was a lot wrong that I've fixed by now and things keep
getting better. I've rebuilt/replaced almost everything mechanical
except the engine (which has good compression and no signs of trouble at
the moment), and I'm trying to actually get it running well.
The last thing on my list is to rebuild the carb. I cut my teeth
rebuilding mid 80's Honda carbs, so the Zenith that's on my truck seems
spectacularly simple...but for one thing. I've never run across an
adjustable main jet before. This carb shows signs of having had
less-than-competent rebuilds in the past, so I don't really have any
trust in where the adjustable main jet has been set previously. I also
haven't located much info on the web on how to do a main jet
adjustment. Any advice or info on how to get to the best main jet
setting would be much appreciated!
For those that periodically wonder in print as to whether there are any
women on this list, I can vouch for at least one. :-)
