Water boils at 212F at normal (29.92" Mercury atmospheric pressure).
Raising the pressure by 4 PSI would raise the boiling point to about
224F, while a 7 PSI cap would take the boiling point to around 236F.
Adding an 50% mix of Ethylene Glycol antifreeze would have a similar
effect to adding a 4 pound cap. It raises the boiling point to 223F.
Combining the 4 pound cap with a 50% mix of antifreeze would raise the
boiling temperature to about 236F. A 7 pound cap along with the 50%
antifreeze mix would boil at 246F.

Subject: [oletrucks] Unpressurized Cooling System - OK to pressurize?
Hi:
Our 1950 GMC (Dusty's truck), just overheated again in this Southern
California swelter. It has a 235 six in it with the original
unpressurized cooling system. Any suggestions regarding pressurizing the
system ,even to maybe 4 psi? Will it handle hot weather better? I have
to pull the head again and replace the head gasket. Dave D.
