The reason this list operates the way it does is so that bounces don't
create an infinite mail loop, resending to the list and making more
bounces.

The nebulous community that makes up the "internet" has a long list of RFC
(Requests for Comment) which are basically consensus of opinions from
internet discussions by interested parties.

If you are looking for something to help you sleep at night, the entire list
of recognized RFC's is at:

http://www.ietf.org/iesg/1rfc_index.txt

Some of these RFC's date back over 30 years, starting in 1969. They are
considered good advice and accepted as conventional wisdom gained from
those that have "been there, done that, got the tshirt".

RFC0822 covers Mail etiquette and goes into great detail on other reasons
and situations that could be prevented by various settings (many of these
by the way are completely IGNORED by yahoo and their "glorious" groups).

I on the otherhand am an old net curmudgeon, and will do things the way
they have always done because they still work. If it ain't broke don't fix
it.
