I've heard 2 stories on this subject...The first is while you got out of 
the truck, your lady would lean over and lock the driver's door while 
you ran around to her side to open the door up for her and then you 
would use the key to lock it. The 2nd was back then there weren't a lot 
of streets that were paved like now days and it got really muddy. So the 
driver would pull as far as he could to the curb or side walk and get 
out on the passenger's side so he won't get his shoes muddy. Heck I 
don't know, this is what I've always heard.
