I ask the same question last year at my buddies machine shop after i had
mine punched out. and he said they never replaced the rivets on the ole
drums. mind you this is after i tried to get the hub off the drums with the
press and found out they were riveted on :) if you want to look deeper the
back drums aren't riveted on and they only use lugs to hold them on.

Subject: [oletrucks] front brake drum ?
Date: Tue, 13 May 2003 17:38:16 EDT
Hey folks, i picked up some NOS OEM brake drums for my mostly original 53
GMC
longbed. when i went to install em on the front, the old ones each have 3
big
rivets holding them to the front hub. i called a big brake outfit around
here
asking if they could install the rivets for me. they tell me to just drill
em
out and don't replace them they are overkill and that the wheel studs and
lugnuts when the wheel is on tight it is good enough....that is what i did.
i
sure brought the pedal up.but do i need those rivets or not haunts me
now.....does any one have a thought here. it sure makes it easy to change
the
drums and work on the brakes without them....and i noticed i have some
original 3 hubcap clip wheels and some 6 clip wheels are these wheels still
the same width, offset ect .. thanks Steve
