The 'one' wire alternator also has a 2 terminal plug out the side. Use a
10ga wire to connect the post to the battery. The 2 term connection has a
'keyed' exciter terminal and an idiot light circuit. You can key the exciter
circuit or jump it to the charge post. It wont kill the battery. Dont run
the charge current through the dash gauge or you will risk a fire. It might
work for a while but the old gauge has never seen a 65-110 amp load. Fire =
major damage. If you must know the output install a new gauge first or use
the idiot light circuit to shown a no charge.
The old regulator is toast and doesn't figure into the charge circuit.
They do make an internally excited regulated alternator. it will still have
the same plug. The 'keyed' circuit is a dumby, the idiot lite circuit is
still there.
