[oletrucks] hei distributor questions

i have a hei distributor out of chevy inline six from a chevy 250. i am 
wanting to put it in my 54 235 2 ton truck-i know i have to do a little 
machineing to get it to fit but do i need a different gear on the 
distributor? do i use the one on the hei or do i take it off the old points 
distributor? thanks
