Well, time to stop lurking and actually give some
information here. I have the 1-piece window kit
installed on my 1955 series 2. See it at

www.geocities.com/daylswor/

*** WARNING!! *** This is not a restoration. The
only original thing on this truck is sheet metal. If
you're the purist type, please don't tie into me. I'm
just trying to show the window kit on a normal
everyday guy's truck outside of the catalog.

The kit is nice once finished. However, the
professionals installing it had a lot of trouble
getting it just right. Until everything is perfectly
straight, the windows jump right on out of the track.
As you can guess, there's a heck of a lot of finessing
involved to get everything just right.

And doing that finesse is a nightmare. Even though
the doors are wide, space is tight in there with the
mechanism. EXTREME care must be taken or the 1
lifting arm will gouge right into the window glass the
first time you try it.

The windows are flat glass, and they used mine as
patterns to cut the safety tinted windows you see on
my truck. The originals are kept safely wrapped in a
blanket in case needed again. So you could put
whatever type of glass you wanted.

The actual hardware you receive is very good quality
and very solid. My doors have tight seals, so they
get slammed hard to shut. Never had a window jump
out, either up or down.

Personally I think it's a good investment in time (for
you guys who can do this stuff. I'm lucky if I can
change a lightbulb. Dammit Jim, I'm a programmer, not
a truck mechanic) or in money if you're like me and
pay the pros. (I wouldn't expect my mechanic to write
multi-campus IVR systems.)

One aside is I kept the manual window cranks. I
believe the kit comes in power windows, too. I can
not comment on the power option, but the cranks are
RIDICULOUSLY easy to turn. I'm talking "squeeze the
black plastic disk between thumb and forefinger and
gently rotate the handle" easy.

Email me if'n you have any other questions, or post to
the list.

Back to lurking...
