Just a note on the MoPar A-833. Custom Classic Trucks may recommend this
transmission in old trucks, but a book I have (How to Build a Hot Rod or
something like that) specifically recommends against the aluminum case
A-833. I wonder about the pros and cons of this transmission, but I am
still considering it for my 51 with a 283.

Custom Classic Trucks magazine had an article about installing the OD trans
in Feb 2001. It is a mid 70's MoPar A-833 transmission. Think it comes with
a
Hurst shifter from the factory. You must get an aluminum case trans as the
iron ones were 1.1 4th gear. It also must have a 23 spline output shaft. It
is the same length as the Chevy trans. You might be able to get a back
issue
of the magazine. It is a real good article showing the installation in an
old
Chevy. ( 7 pages ) I am thinking seriously about it myself.
