I'd bet thatthe second wire is for the lamp inside the radio. Hook it
to your dash lamp feed. The case is ground.

I just picked up my original 1950 radio from the restoration guys, and
when I
checked it out before installation, I ran into a couple of problems.
Naturally the radio restoration folks aren't around for the weekend, so
. . .
There are 2 wires coming from the radio. One is obviously the hot wire,
to
hook up to a power source. I would assume the other was a ground wire,
but it
does not ground the radio. From what I can tell, it doesn't do
anything.
When I run the hot wire to the battery, and ground the radio from its
casing
to the truck, the light comes on, and things warm up, the wire gets very
hot,
and something in the radio smells like it's burning. So I don't leave
it
hooked up like that more than a few seconds. Any idea what may be
wrong, or
is it typical for this old-style radio to heat up like that? And what
is the
other wire for?
