Yes, I think you are correct in assumng that you have a hood from a
1949-52 Chevy. Unless you are trying for an exact restoration I think
that it would be much easier to put the 1949-52 side emblems on the hood
than to try to put the 1953 side emblem on. The 1953-54 emblem does
not look like it would cover the holes that would be in your 1949-52
hood. All the emblems are available from Chevy Duty www.chevyduty.com
or 800-741-1618. If you have one of their catalogs they have some good
drawings of the different side emblems.

Ok, so my front hood emblem is right for '53 1/2ton (chevrolet w/ bowtie),
but on the sides of the hood there are 5 holes for the chevrolet emblem in a
line inside an indention, and two holes below it for the 3100. The correct
side ones are the larger 3100? My hood must've been from 49-52.
I think the larger 3100 is made to replace the large chevrolet on the side.
So then I'd just need to weld up the other two small holes (for small 3100)?
Are there any other differences I might notice with this hood? :)

Chevrolet "Thriftmaster" was on the side of hoods on 1947, 1948, and
early 1949. Late 49, 50, 51, & 52 just have "Chevrolet" and the model
number (3100-3600) below it. Starting in 1953 the "Chevrolet" was
removed and the model no. (3100, 3600) was a little larger than the
49-52 model no.

So why -as a '53 1/2 tone- does my hood say Thriftmaster with the small and
separate 3100 logo underneath? Donor? From what year?
