Tom if I couldn't hear anything in the tank, I wouldn't flush it out. Your
gas filter should catch any small shavings or dust that may be in it. Also,
if you have a rubber seal for your sending unit, there is no need for any
gasket sealer. If it is a paper gasket, then I would use some permatex.
When I installed my sending unit the float would catch on the side of the
tank so I just turned the float around to miss and to float freely. You may
also have to adjust the float arm as you would on a toilet stool to get the
correct reading.
