I just acquired the 235 that will be replacing my 216 for my 46 truck. The
previous owner had it set up with side engine mounts in the front for his 57
truck. Mine is set up for the two bolts in the center under or behind the
harmonic balance. The 235 appears to have the same front plate but no holes
for these mounts. So....I am trying to decide between drilling out the plate
in the 235 to bolt up where the 216 did, or make/buy some motor mount
adapters to use the side mounts.
Are the side mounts more stable or preferable? Does anyone know if the kit
that Patrick's sells to modify mounts for a V8 would do the same trick?
My second question pertains to the water pump. The 235 I got appears to have
a long shaft WP on it that was recently replaced by the previous owner.
Since it is new I would love to keep it and save the money but I don't think
it clears the radiator in my 46 like it did in his 57. Are there any pulley
combos or modifications that I can make to the long shaft water pump to use
it in my 46 or should I just buy a rebuilt short shaft unit from a supplier?
Now for a question that shows my "rookie" status in this field. What is the
difference between the "thriftmaster", "blue flame", and "loadmaster",
(years, type, size)????
Thanks
Neil
