The "red book" , accurately called the Chevrolet Pickup Red Book, is put out
by Motorbooks International. ISBN 0-87938-771-8. You could order it from
Amazon, or your local Borders could order it for you if they (probably)
don't have it in stock. I sure like Borders more than Barnes and Noble -
who never have gotten a book order for me right.
Anyway, the red book covers trucks from 1946-1972, giving such information
as production numbers, serial number meanings, models with wheelbase and
GVW, engine and transmission codes, axle identification, colors, and regular
production options, followed by a small amount of information text style
about the year's production. Mine was only 8 or 10 dollars, it is a book
you could live without, but at the price, is cheap just for an occasional
use.
