Here is an update. I have had my truck in for the ongoing overheating
issues to a auto repair and machine shop. Well they did a compression test
and 2 cyl were -25 and -30 lbs below the others. So I ask for a valve job
to go along with a new head gasket.

All was going well until they maganflux the head. There were two good size
cracks. Not to worry, the owner went to his barn across the street and he
had 2 heads on the shelf. His dad was the local Chevy dealer and gave him
all of the old stuff to get him started in business. A few of the items are
still in the boxes. Well he selected the head with the same mold number as
my old head. Is a $100.00 good/ fair price for a NOS?

Next off to the junkyard, I pulled off with no problem the exterior sun
shade from a 41. Question 2 - I think this is aluminum - it has a bad coat
of paint on it. How do I remove the paint without damaging the shade?

I also got one of the defrost vents (under the dash) that I was missing.
And the shroud and support that are in front of the radiator, from a 41
special delivery. I saw one of these in another truck earlier this year and
did not pull it. I went back a few weeks later to the truck it was in.
Well it had a Dodge Colt sitting on top of its hood. And I found a 1969 New
Hampshire plate in mint condition. The junk yard gou threw all of this in
with the visor.

What a day!

This is the first time I went to the junk yard with a list of what I wanted
and knowing what truck all of the stuff was on. And I was able to get it
all off. It never happens to me this way.

Just good living in the state with the motto - LIVE FREE OR DIE!

Also, in January or so I found a 47-50 GMC on its side with the spare tire
support still attached. Someone asked me to get it for them but I can not
remember who. Please ping me off list if this is something you are looking
for. I would love to swap this for a 40-46 spare carrier.
