I'm looking at a 1954 235 that has, believe it or not, a 56-62 "insert" type
main bearings. These bearings are not supposed to fit this block.
After much research, here's what we have:
Block casting #3733949 (1953-54 235)
Code date F73- June 7,1953
Crank Casting A#3701488
Head casting #3836848 (1956-58)
Distributor #1112403 (1955-59)
Oil pump cast # 3701562 (1953-55)
Water Pump - 2 hole type (1952-54)
According to all the information I can find, this engine is supposed to have
main bearings of the doweled type. Has anyone ever seen a situation like
this before? Maybe this was (is) an experimental or prototype of the 1956
235.
What's wrong with this picture? Appreciate any help.
