If you mount the fan directly to the rad, it will not cool as well, however,
if you mount the fan to the shroud opening, then you get great air flow at a
light or wherever you are stopped.  There is another problem with this
method. Room is tight on the engine side of the rad, so a fan in a shroud
must go in the front. Another problem is the "X" bar in the front of the
rad. i removed this on my 57, but I don't think I would do this again. The
brace was there for a reason and it needs to be there. I noticed some
squeaks afterwards, but I can't for certain say it was because I removed the
"X" bar.
