I'm with Deve about the "hack" jobs on some of the rodded AD trucks I have
seen.
The IFS installs are probably my biggest complaint. I looked at one last week
that
the wheel base was off by at least 6" and the grafted in front clip looked
really
bad.
I'd be afraid to drive it.
They had half installed a different dash that looked like hell. It had been
sitting outside for a few years with no rear or corner windows since the top was
chopped and they couldn't get the windows to fit. The truck looked like it was a
nice one when they started, but the only thing I could use off of it are the
fenders!
What a waste of a nice truck.
It has made a difference in the approach I will take to ungrade my 50 chevy.
My
truck was/is in bad shape, not really a candiate for restoration, it sat in a
farmers
barnyard since '72 with no rear or passenger side window. I drained about 2
gallons
of water out of the oil pan....so I am going to go with a new drivetrain, new
seat,
till steering and so on.
However, I have the "bug" now, and my next project (I hope) will be an
original
restore of a '46 1/2 ton. It is in great shape and has been stored in a barn for
the last
40 years. And no I won't tell you where it is ; )
Which way you go, to me, is a matter of what you have to start with, and
then,
what
you want to end up with. In any case do it right, or leave it for someone who
will.
Oh, am 45, I used a '49 chevy converted into a wrecker when I was a kid. It was
one
tough ol' truck. I always liked the looks of the AD trucks and when I started
looking
for something to restore an AD was my first choice.
