Gotta agree with Bret......drop the rpm's as low as you can. If you can
find some deburring media (the stufff they use in vibratory deburring) that
would likely work, but failing that, we used to use assorted nuts and bolts
to do much the same thing on antique motorcycle tanks.

I sure wouldn't run it 400rpm. I am a tool maker and looking at the past I'd
say
if you really are going to run it like a tumbler, then run it slow. Start at
the slowest
speed and work your way up if you dare. I would think more about what kind
of things I would put inside the tank to remove the rust. Maybe some gravel
would work better than scrap metal. If it ends up working like a parts
tumbler
then you will probably have to run it for over a hour. That should make a
lot of
noise. I hope you can stand the noise. Good luck coming up with a way to
hold
the tank. Even if you come up with a way to hold the tank, watch out that it
doesn't
come lose from the machine. At slow speeds (14rpm) it would probably just
fall
out of the machine but at higher speed you are looking for trouble.
