Yes, now that you say this, I did in my 53 3100.  I removed the front member,
and left the rear one.  That's the one that my home-made tranny mount is welded
to.  With a TH-350 and GM smallblock, you won't need the x-member that is in the
bell housing area.  I did not notice any frame movement or distortion after
removing this front member.
