[oletrucks] What is that stuff

What is that stuff that is/was stuck to the firewall and the back of the
cab behind the fuel tank, it sure sticks like Sh*t to a blanket and for
some reason it "STOPS RUST" the metal is like new under it, only if they
had put it on the high rust areas. It is like some kind of cardboard
covered in tar with a honey comb pattern. Now that i have removed it
what is a good replacement substitute.
