I just looked through the mail and noticed the new Danbury Mint catalog.
Yup these are the same folks that Bob ADler warned about the fallacious use
of chrome on their '53 AD models. Well, I bought one of those '53 wreckers,
and I have to say that I like looking at it even though I know damn well that
it shouldn'd be dolled up the way that it is.
The new catalog has lots of neat stuff, and of particular interest to us
oletruckers has to be the new Suburbans, both in 1:24 scale. The first is an
absolutely stunning '46 with red body and black fenders, item No. 283. The
model has a spotlight and fog lights along with all of the features you
expect in a model of this class; opening hood, detailed motor, opening doors,
detailed interior, detailed undercarriage, etc. They are asking $135. and the
model looks very convincing.
The second 'burb is a allover dark green '57, item No. 288, and it has
all the features that the '46 has except for the fog lights and spotlight.
The mirrors look a touch heavy, but this model looks good also. Both of these
models have that right "look" that a good model does, giving the same feeling
that you get looking at the real thing. Danbury is asking $135. for this one
as well. They can be reached at (800) 493-2934.
I noticed an item for the rodders among us. Banbury is offering a custom
'53 3100 pickup, black with yellow and orange flames, a S/B V-8 along with
other mods. The chrome grill looks right at home. It is item No. 257, $124.
