<< Hello all,
First I'd like to say thanks to all for the vast info. on "Bare metal
prep". Don't know where I'd be on the ole beater if it weren't for all the
knowledge in this group.
Now I'm on to another problem (they just keep coming) with the motor
trany setup. Ordered a Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and cam setup from
Summit and the tech at Edelbrock says I'll need a 2500 stall converter with
this setup as the cam has a very rough idle.
1) Can a stall converter be added without any other modifications to
the tranny? If not what other mods. are needed?
==========================================================
I'm anal when it comes to this, I suggest two things, one is an external
tranny cooler, and two would be a tranny cooler pan, you'll get more slippage
in the converter with the stall, so the fluid will run warmer in stop and go
situations.
=============================================================
2) What's the reprocussions of just sticking with the factory converter
that's in the tranny? (350 turbo.)
====================================================================
One problem is if there is too much cam, the idle rpms need to be up to
compensate, then when you put it in gear, she'll slam in, hard on the tranny
and Ujoints. Another is at low speed idle type driving, unless the rpms are
high enough, you'll "lope" along with the engine, kinda jerky, the stall
converter takes that out.

On a different note, I saw a truck at a cruise this weekend that had
the same setup as mine (pacer) and the guy said he got his motor mounts
(350) and tranny crossmember from chassis engineering and they looked real
good. Anyone had any experience with this particular product? Would
appreciate hearing from ya! Tried to email Chassis Engineering, as I
couldn't find these particular items on their web page, but I got no reply.
Guess I get off here for now (Whew! Long winded huh?) Thanks in advance
for your alls help.

Stall converters for 350's aren't too expensive, (about 150 for a decent
one) they'll take some getting used too with part throttle driving, but after
awhile, you'll not notice it.
Also, the CC's of the heads will affect the cylinder pressure too,
depending on the compression ratio you're running, you *may* get by with the
factory converter, I think the cam you're using is in the 220-224 duration
@.050 specs, which kinda borders the edge of the need for a converter.
BTW, carb went out UPS from the wife's workplace.
