Here in north Texas, we have our share of local car shows and a few cruises
to keep all the gearheads happy, but last night was the annual BIG event of
the year in Vernon TX. Called Summer's Last Blast, the Saturday night cruise
had 1387 cars and trucks entered in the 6-10 PM cruise. There were stockers,
street rods, pro-street and anything else you could think of going up and
down Wilbarger Avenue. Even the police enjoyed the event. They looked the
other way during impromptu burnouts, although they did counsel some of the
more aggressive types. It was a fun time and this event has grown from a few
cars to this size in only 10 years. If you are ever in the neighborhood in
mid-August, this is the place for you. By the way, there were some very nice
AD and TF trucks up and down the drag. They also have a nice car show on
Sunday (300-400 vehicles) to round out the weekend.
