Hi All...
Thanks so much for all the answers to our questions about the two different
53's. Thought I'd update you on our "Melancholy Monday" experience.
In my gut... I felt like buying both trucks on the spot. Instead the owner
said she would hold them both for me until today. I called and left a
message with her sister-in-law Sunday afternoon explaining I'd be buy by
1:00pm Monday.
Arrived today at 11:00am only to find that they had already been picked up!
A (supposed)local antique dealer (claiming "he" was the guy that called)
bought them both for the $2000 "I" had agreed to pay! The sister in law
said that she probably talked too much to him... thus allowing him to steal
the deal!! I'm sick to my stomach over this scam.
We tried to call the place he claimed to own, but as I expected... no such
phone number appears to exist! When the original lady returned home, she
too was shocked. We all felt pretty bad to say the least, They got the
cash, but I did not get the trucks I talked to you about.
Here in southern NJ, oletrucks are kinda hard to find in such good condition
and at such a good price. I still can't believe it happened to me. I really
had my heart set on having them. I wish I had just bought them the first
day! What a hard lesson to learn! The ladies called a few friends for me
hoping that they might know of where I might be able to find other old
trucks for sale, but no luck.
One of the guys we called (an oldtime cranberry farmer)said that I'd have
better luck checking out in the midwest or southwest. That got me thinking
about a family reunion we're going to attend near Cleveland, Ohio in another
week.
Now... I'm trying to put this bad experience behind me (and my son). We're
trying to look towards finding something along our trip route. If anyone
knows of anyplace in Ohio or Indiana that might have "average or above"
quality old Chevy trucks (49 to 59)... please let us know. Since I'll be
towing it back (if I find one) I'm only looking for one (not two)! AND...
I'll be sure to do it right this time!!!!!
Thanks-
Ken
