Patricia,
  I've seen tranny fliud poured right into the carb while the engine was
running.  The "mechanic" (my brother-in-law) doing it quoted the same
reasons.  I have no idea if it really helps or not but it didn't seem to
hurt.  By the way, the smoke cloud it produced was truely impressive,
unfortunately for him, his wife(my sister) did not think so.
