I'm not sure I agree with you, John. I installed the front discs from a '79
Camaro and I am still using the original master cylinder (rebuilt) from my
'53 mounted to the floor. I brought the proportioning/metering valve so I
don't get uneven pressures front to back. It works great!! I used to have
to just about stand on the pedal with both feet to get the truck to slow
down. And while it isn't the same as a 1999 Chevy whatever w/ power
brakes, it certainly is easier than the original.
You have to consider, however, that my expectations may be set lower than
others' on the list. After all, I don't want to put $40K into my '53 so it
rides like a '99.......I still have to pull weeds out of the bed of my
truck each spring. (I have pictures to prove it!)

I used a master cylinder from a late model Chevy 1 ton, but without
power brakes. My response to people who said a power m*stang cylinder
would be just as good was: "If 15/16 works, why do new Chevys 1 tons use
1-3/16, just for looks?" If you are converting to front disc use a post
'71 Chevy 1 ton (1-1/8 or 1-3/16),
if you are staying with drums use a 68 or 69 Chevy 1 ton (1-1/8). Don't
use a disc cylinder with drums it won't keep a residual pressure on the
front brakes to keep the cups seated in the wheel cylinders.

I would suggest using the power steering box and column setup off the
4x4 axle donor, you can measure the donor for the proper mounting
location.
