Hope somebody can help me out w/ some engine swap questions.. came across a
'55 235 that came out of a Chevy car, and am looking to pick it up and
rebuild it as a spare for my current 235 in my daily driver. I want to
make sure it'll be a direct swap onto the existing motor mounts, but it's
located several states away yet.
My 55 1/2 ton chevy suburban has a block w/ casting number 3836233
(Chevrolet, 55-57, 235) w/ 3-spd. The one I'm looking to pick up has
casting number 3837004 (Inliners International spec's this casting number
as a Chevrolet, 55-57, 235-261) and a Powerglide.
1. Are these two models completely interchangeable w/out motor mount, etc.
fixes/adjustments?
2. Has anybody ever hooked up a standard shifting lever & linkage rods to a
Powerglide auto linkage? (If only to totally confuse the hell out of a
would-be truck thief or as a quick substitute for a bad standard tranny..)
3. Anybody looking to pick up a '55 Powerglide tranny?
n. Just out of curiosity, if the block casting number is for a "235-261,"
what makes it either a 235 or a 261? Is it just a wider bore diameter
milled out?
