Summer West Marin Tour
Saturday, July 9
Novato
Jointly Sponsored by MGOC and SSTS*
Summer never gets better than driving an MG through West Marin, and Bud
Alderson
and Marty Rayman have put together a fun tour to do just that. Leaving from
Novato,
we will head west past Stafford Lake, take a scenic drive over Wilson Hill,
and follow
the Chileno Valley Road through dairyland to Tomales Bay and the Panoramic
Highway
(Highway 1). In Point Reyes Station, well stop for a 45 minute look-around
and cheese
sampling at The Cowgirl Creamery (noted for award-winning organic cheese
making).
(Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, while exploring the Marin area
organic
industry and culture, stopped by the Creamery in 2006.)
We will continue on to lunch at the historic Olema Inn, a stagecoach stop
and
gathering place for loggers, ranchers, and farmers in the late 1800s. Come
visit with old
MG friends, and make some new ones.
There are several scenic routes back to Highway 101 have your pick: the
quickest is
Sir Francis Drake Boulevard to San Rafael; for the curvy route, follow Marty
back over
Bolinas Fairfax Road; or follow Bud on spectacular ocean-view tour on
Shoreline Drive
(Highway1) past Stinson Beach into Mill Valley. The total driving time from
Novato
back to 101 will be about two and a half hours.
When and Where: Meet at 10:00 am at Starbucks parking lot at 127 San Marin
Drive in
Novato, about a mile west of Highway 101 (take the San Marin Drive Exit).
Directions: Take 101 north though San Rafael to Novato, or Highway 37 from
the East
Bay to Highway 101. Exit on San Marin Drive, which is the last Novato exit.
Head west.
Starbucks is about a mile down on the right hand side.
Cost: No fees. We lunch together and can order individually from the Olema
Inns lunch
menu they will prepare separate checks. For this convenience, please honor
the group
gratuity rate.
Please RSVP to Bud Alderson at 415-497-7669 or iralderson@comcast.net; or
Marty
Rayman at 415-454-5756 or DrMartyRayman@gmail.com.
