Hi all,
I know this group is mostly about cute British sports cars, but my
battleship Jaguar Series III XJ6 flies the Union Jack, too. Actually, I'm
jealous of all those MGs, Triumphs and Lotus' out there and hope to count
one in my collection some day soon.
Anyway, HMS Grandpa (as we refer to it) needs new rear brakes (the drivers
side caliper is leaking fluid all over everything). For those unfamiliar
with Jaguar engineering, these brakes aren't located right behind the road
wheels were access would be, well, accessible. Nooo, these are inboard
mounted brakes located on either side of the differential thus ensuring
several busted knuckles and lots of swearing getting at 'em. While perhaps
technically accessible without removal of the entire rear suspension
assembly, the generally recommended procedure calls for just such a removal.
So, out came the rear end yesterday and now I'm waiting on the new calipers,
rotors and other assorted parts to arrive before proceeding. If anyone one
wants pics of a bottomless Jag, shoot me an email and I'll send you the
pin-ups.
