Morris Listers....
Today I was was at the local MG specialist (returning his trailer that I had
borrowed to move a sick MGB) - this is the guy who races against my Oxford
in his Magnette - when a Minor Traveller parked out front.
It was absolutely superb. Given the recent discussion about wood I had a
close look at the wood, which was beautifully fitted and in perfect nick. I
asked the owner if he had had trouble with the wood and he said "no
worries". The reason - he is a shipwright working on Sydney Harbour! He
used the original wood pieces, which he still has, as a pattern and then cut
and shaped the new wood - magnificent. The paintwork, chrome and interior
trim was in excellent condition.
Under the bonnet there was a 1275 Midget engine with MG Metro manifold and
single 1 3/4 SU, extractors and healthy cam. The car has disc brakes on the
front and it apparently goes with the traffic flow around Sydney and manages
to stop when Sydney drivers in their usual inane manner fill the gaps.
Makes a rather nice Q car 'cos it looks remarkably standard from the
outside.
Keep on revving - Andrew "Axeman" Pursey - 1955 Morris Oxford (racing in
Group Na pre'58 Classic Saloon Cars), 1956 Morris Isis, 1958 MGA+ (went well
on the track at Eastern Creek Raceway recently) and 2000 Land Rover
Discovery V8 (great for towing).
