Bill, I've done 5 or 6 of these "kits of washers and seals"over the years on
different Minors, with complete success and safety, I should add!. (There is
no difference in the master-cylinders between sedans and convertibles, or
any other variant, by the way, but have no knowledge of the needs of
m/cylinders for disc-brakes).
The thick rubber "valve washer" is the rebound/stop washer that goes in
first, at the very bottom of the bore. The springy or dished washer appears
vitally designed to always lift the master cup away from the end of the
metal piston, so allowing the back-flow of fluid through the fine holes all
around its machined end-surface, after the brakes have been pressed.

Dear list members: I am trying to interpret the brake master cylinder
rebuild instructions in the Morris Minor Haynes manual and can't quite

does the valve washer just sit unattached at the ene of the bore? Also, I
seem to have an leftover flat rubber washer in the rebuild kit with nowhere
to put it. Does this washer get used on a different version but not my 1957
Convertable? I also remember hearing some folk wisdom about modifying the
master cylinder (ie leaving some parts off) for front disc brake conversion.
