While not related to Morgan's, I went to a party this weekend in Middletown,
PA, on an island a few hundred feet from Three-Mile Island. The man in the
cottage next to our host was tooling about the river in a red 1965 Amphicar.
I had the chance to see the car close up after he came ashore, and it was in
mint condition. The car has a Triumph Herald engine, and supposedly can do
80 MPH on the highway and 10 knots in the water. What an amazing car! It
looks like a little 1957 T-bird, with two propellers in the rear. The engine
is in the rear, and according to the owner, the engine and body came from
England, the trans is from a 356 Porsche, and the suspension from Mercedes.
The car was assembled in Germany, and they only made about 3,000 cars.
While I don't know how fast ten knots is, the car seemed to be zooming along
the river. The owner is selling the car for $20,000, and it includes a
non-running Amphicar for spares.
