Gary,
There is a "Humboldt State University" in California. Maybe the word
"University" was written on the back of the t-shirt? ;-) Other than that,
I have no idea.
As to your claim as New Zealand being the first country to welcome the third
millennium, does thus honour not belong to Tonga? My National Geographic
atlas shows a jog in the international date line. Matter of fact, even
Uelen, in the extreme east of Siberia is W of the international date line.
Mind you, the sun won't be seen there for some time.
Anyway, all the best to you and happy motoring in the new millennium.

Subject: Humboldt State
Hi listers,
Noticed while walking down the street today - a gentleman wearing a t-shirt
emblazoned "The Humboldt State".
I assume he is from one of the "48" but which one, and why?
It was always assumed that the Humboldt flows south of Panama, but maybe my
education is not complete!
In case I don't have a chance before midnight on 31st December, welcome all
to the new Millennium from the first country in the world to see the light
(Also home of the Americas Cup).
Very best regards from New Zealand, especially to all we have had the
pleasure of meeting via this net and those who have visited us during the
year.
Gary Moles & Lyn Prince.
