Even early on, there were significant advantages to the Oldsmobile version as
the Buick put out 155 HP and the Cutlass had a 185 HP version.
In the last years of the American production of the block, power increased to
200 hp normally aspirated for the Buick and 215+ hp with 300 lbft torque at
3250 rpm for the Olds Jetfire.
At these power levels and with the light weight block (saving 500 pounds over a
Corvette) Scott's car would go much faster with this engine than the 'vette and
would have the advantage of being able to turn.
Olds also had a "turbocharged" version of the motor. They called it Fluid
Injection. It used "turbo rocket fluid" of distilled water and methyl alcohol.
These engines are still around and are a favorite for kit cars and engine swaps.
